Philippe Briand

Yacht Designion

Philippe Briand

I have always tried to give Jeanneau designs for cruising boats, but also designs that benefit from developments in racing that are useful for cruising.

AN INSPIRED AND TALENTED MARINE ARCHITECT

Elegance, performance and harmony are associated with all of the boats designed by Philippe Briand. The work of Philippe Briand has for a very long time been focused on sailboat design and marked by a joyfully eclectic character, because the architect has designed race boats of every size and style. Philippe Briand has also designed Super Yachts for cruising, including some of the biggest and most elegant sailboats. In all, more than 12,000 boats have left his drafting table, the great majority of which are production boat models.

A COLLABORATION THAT BEGAN IN 1977

At 22 years old, Philippe Briand drafted his first production boat model, when the Jeanneau shipyard asked him to design the Symphonie in 1977. In all, he would design 45 Jeanneau boat models in 38 years:

the Espaces, the Sun Kiss, the Sun Fizz, the first Sun Fast models, most of the Sun Odyssey line, since 2012, and the Jeanneau Yachts, from the 64 to today.

“My work with Jeanneau has taught me a great deal about the best way to build a production boat model. They are seaworthy boats built by sailors, but also built with the goal of satisfying their many customers, all those who are passionate about the sea.”

Interior design

The interior is refined, spacious and extremely comfortable, with a large number of windows and portholes that fill the lower deck spaces with light. Reached by a portside companionway, the main galley combines design and practicality with a magic corner, lots of storage, refrigerator and freezer, and Corian® worktops.

The two versions of the Gran Turismo 50 – “saloon cosy” or three cabins – have a full-beam owner suite, bathed in light and enjoying an en-suite shower room, as well as dressing room-style fittings. The quality and combination of materials, the deep pore walnut woodwork as well as lots of decorative details are the hallmark of a luxury boat.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Andreani Design

From Ferrari to Beneteau

Pierangelo Andreani started his career as a designer during the profusely creative period of the 1980s, as though in a dream, with Pininfarina, at the heart of the well-known design centre of the time, and took part in the creation of the Ferrari Mondial 8. In charge of style for the De Tomaso Group, he also contributed to the design of the Maserati Biturbo and the Guzzi Le Mans 850 motorbike. Independent for the last 30 years, his passion for beauty can be seen in the design of several Beneteau boat interiors he has worked on since 2005.

Cars, bikes, scooters, and boats; the designer was thoroughly involved in every new project! The challenge was to connect dreams with reality. To do this, you need to have good knowledge of materials and industrial processes. The job is always to provide the best design, combined with perfect ergonomics. The rule is to find a solution that suits industrialisation while keeping in mind the original idea. Pierangelo Andreani knows how to express integrally the full emotion contained in the initial drawings in the final object.

The first collaboration with Beneteau dates back to 2005. The challenge was to create a new range of sport cruisers between 34 and 50 feet (currently the Gran Tursimo range). To rival with Italian and English competitors, the design had to be unusual but not unconventional. Recently Pierangelo Andreani designed the interiors of the Swift Trawler 30, the Gran Tursimo 46 and the Oceanis yacht 62 – his first sailing yacht – for Beneteau.

Pierangelo Andreani

Pierangelo Andreani: at the end of my studies, my dream was to join Pininfarina and to design a car there. My dream came true and I worked on various car projects. At the time we had neither computer nor sophisticated software and not enough money, however, we were carefree and our enthusiasm was such that this adventure was absolutely incredible.

Pierangelo Andreani: I really enjoyed working on the Swift Trawler 30. It was a project with lots of restrictions! Size, costs, production constraints; all this is highly stimulating for me as I do not like the job to be too easy! Today, I am particularly proud of the result. This would not have been possible without the huge involvement of the Beneteau teams. This project was a huge challenge for everyone and it is the fruit of incredible teamwork.

Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard

Carlo Nuvolari: Our only speciality is the uniqueness of our creations. The passion for the sea and boats that united Dan and myself in the beginning has not prevented us from taking on luxury property development ventures from time to time. However, it always brings us back to the sea and boats, full of new ideas and an appetite to do new things! We have worked on Venetian taxis, shuttle services for mega yachts, large motor yachts, gigantic sailing yachts over 100 m long, and have also developed whole ranges, such as Monte Carlos, and in all these the unique nature of our designs is the feature that stands out most. Our clients are the best judge of this and when Stephen Spielberg entrusted us with the creation of his private super yacht, it was because he knew that our take on it would be different.

Carlo Nuvolari: We have the opportunity to create luxury items for the elite and this is the most appealing side of sailing. The constant exhibition of the yacht object to the public differentiates it from a house or an art object. Boats are always on show, with their passengers living aboard, sleeping, sharing dinners and wines and casting off to sail to wonderful places. A well-designed yacht must always render this ultimate design and style experience, which is generally of higher quality than that of a house. Whatever a yacht’s size, the expectations of owners in terms of interior design are well above those they would have of their house.

DESIGNER

NUVOLARI LENARD

Design Centre

Inseparable, the naval engineer and architect, Carlo Nuvolari, and the designer, Dan Lenard, founded their small creation studio near Venice, in 1990. The talented duo quickly stood out as a reference in the world of luxury yachts. There are now 16 employees at their Design Centre, who create between 25 and 185 m long yachts, occasionally collaborating on ambitious property development ventures.

Sailing yacht or motorboat, small or large, Nuvolari-Lenard approaches each yacht like a pure luxury object: and item that nobody really needs. With a high level of practicality in their creation an established feature, their goal is to redefine pure beauty every time they start designing.

In 2010, the Beneteau Group firmly positioned themselves on the market of luxury motor yachts from 60 to over 100 feet, by creating Monte Carlo Yachts. This success story, signed by designers Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard quickly saw a continuation at Beneteau, with the launch of the Monte Carlo range (MC4, MC5 and MC6). From the same world, these luxury flybridge motor cruisers are the fruit of the exceptional collaboration between the Beneteau Power design office and the two Venetian designers. Lately, the Nuvolari and Lenard duo designed the Gran Tursimo range renewal with the GT40 and GT46 models.

FERRARI PORTOFINO

A STORY OF DESIGN

The two faces of beauty

The Ferrari Portofino is the new V8 GT set to dominate its segment thanks to a perfect combination of outright performance and versatility in addition to a level of driving pleasure and on-board comfort unparalleled on the market.

Capable of unleashing a massive 600 cv and sprinting from 0 to 200 km/h in just 10.8 seconds, the Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful convertible to combine the advantages of a retractable hard top, a roomy boot and generous cockpit space complete with two rear seats suitable for short trips. The Ferrari Portofino is significantly lighter with the adoption of new components featuring innovative designs made possible by the use of cutting-edge production techniques.

This, combined with a 40 cv higher power output than the California T, has resulted in a significant hike in performance and a corresponding drop in emissions. Vehicle dynamics benefit from the introduction, for the first time on this model, of electric power steering, the 3rd generation electronic differential (E-Diff3) and the latest evolution of the electronic suspension control system (SCM-E) integrated with Premium 9.1 ESP.
